Spring 2025
WELCOME BACK
The year 6 staff would like to wish everyone a very happy new year and to welcome back to school our lovely pupils! We are so happy to see all the children again in their uniforms and eager to learn. Children in both classes have settled very well into Year 6 now and know our daily routine. Many of the children are now involved in wider school leadership responsibilities, Spring term is always a very busy one, as we start to prepare for SATs, taking place later in the year. There will be further communication sent out this half term about how you can support your child at home and what we will be doing in school to maximise learning, but also to promote wellbeing, which is so very important. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your class teacher or Mrs Sloan, who are happy to help.
YEAR 6 STAFF
If you need any support or would like to discuss how we can best work in partnership to support your child in school, we are always here to help. Your class teacher is always the first point of contact, followed by Mrs Sloan as Phase Lead (Y4, 5, 6). Smaller queries can often be answered at collection times, however for more private conversations, or those that may take a little longer, please make an appointment by discussing this with the teacher or calling the school office. Collection time can be a very busy time, and not a time that we can give you our full attention for those more in depth conversations.
For any advice on special educational needs, it may be appropriate, after speaking with the class teacher, to also contact Mrs Whitehead, who is our school Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENDCO). Mrs Sloan, in role of Assistant Head and Phase Lead, may also be able to support alongside.
Please be advised that
Mrs Sloan: Assistant Head Teacher, Phase Lead (Y4,5,6) , Year 6 Teacher (Sycamore)
Miss Leslie: Year 6 Teacher (Sycamore)
Miss Torley: Year 6 Teacher (Hawthorn)
Mrs Rowlands, Y6 Teacher
Mrs Dolan: Year 6 HLTA, Reading Ambassador
Miss Dures Year 6 Teaching Assistant
Computing: Mr Keaney (MGL)
PE: Mr Lee (Little Sports Coaches)
ATTENDANCE
Good attendance and punctuality are vital, not only for learning, but also to help pupils settle into their school routine, make friends and grow in confidence. This is particularly the case when preparing for SATs.
Each week, every class with 100% attendance is rewarded with a £10 voucher, which can be spent to celebrate the achievement in whatever way the class decides. We have our weekly extra play award for every class that hits 96% and certificates for best class and most improved. Being on time is vital to help your child settle in the morning and access lessons to the full. Our classroom door opens at 8.40am for the start of the day, closing at 8:55 and collection time is at 3.15pm.
If you have any queries with regards to attendance, please contact our Attendance Officer Miss North or Designated Attendance Lead Andy Murphy.

HOMEWORK
As we know, building good learning habits at home and reinforcing learning that happens at school is important. This is particularly important as pupils prepare for moving on to the next stage of their education, where independent learning is a huge expectation.
This term, supporting your child with independent study will be really important. We hope that most of you have some CGP SATs revision books already, but if not please talk to the class teacher or Mrs Sloan. These are useful, and we strongly advise pupils to use them in their study.
Spring Homework has also been given to pupils this week.. It continues to focus on independent spelling and multiplication practice to make sure that the core skills are embedded.
There may also be additional learning shared with pupils over this term to help them to prepare for SATs. This may include handwriting practice or other targeted activities to support your child.
Pupils can change their reading books regularly from a plentiful Year 6 library.
Children have been given a homework book for them to complete homework in..

READING
Developing strong readers continues to be our priority. All pupils read in school daily. Reading each day will help to accelerate learning and help your child to grow in confidence. Please make it a priority to read with your child and we ask that the blue reading record book is signed by an adult or the Y6 child five times a week.
More information on reading, and the rest of the curriculum, can be
found on our school website. https://stteresaoflisieux.co.uk/
